Avalon Consulting, established in 1996, has been providing consulting services primarily in the following two focused areas:

 

·        Turbine Inlet Cooling (TIC)

·        Combined Heat & Power (CHP)

 

We provide services to various clients, including commercial, industrial, institutional, facility owners, energy service companies, design and engineering contractors, equipment manufacturers, other consulting companies, and the U.S. Department of Energy.

 

Our services include various levels of technical and economic analyses of alternative technologies, system optimization, developing bid specifications, evaluating bids, technical support for detailed design, construction and commissioning, and performance test evaluation.

 

We are located in the Chicago, IL area (Naperville) and have executed projects in the U.S. and overseas. Our international experience includes projects in Australia, Canada, India, Iraq, Korea, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

 

Our principal consultant and founding President, Dharam (Don) Punwani, has over 50 years of experience in energy technologies.

 

Before founding Avalon Consulting, he was Vice President of Technology Development at the Institute of Gas Technology (now GTI Energy), where he worked for thirty years.

 

He has authored/co-authored over 120 publications, presentations, and technical guides. He has presented papers at all major energy power generation conferences. He is the founding President and past Chairman of the Turbine Inlet Cooling Association (TICA), established in 2001. Since 2003, he has been serving TICA as the Executive Director.

 

He received his MBA degree from Loyola University (Chicago, IL) in 1974, an M.S. degree in chemical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, IL) in 1967, and a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Mumbai, India) in 1965.

 

He is an active member of the Turbine Inlet Cooling Association (TICA)Turbine Inlet Cooling and Cogeneration /CHP Technical Committees of ASHRAE, and the Midwest Cogeneration Association.

 

The list of his professional activities, awards, and honors includes:

·        ASHRAE George B. Hightower Award for Technical Achievements (2010)

·        Board Member, Midwest Cogeneration Association (2010-Present)

·        Energy Management Executive Award of the Association of Energy Engineers Chicago Charter Chapter (2004)

·        International Alumni Leadership Award by the Illinois Institute of Technology (2000)

·        International Award of Merit by the Alumni Association of the Illinois Institute of Technology (1998)

·        Honorary Kentucky Colonel honor by the State of Kentucky (1989)
